HASJI
Gorge / Ambient
Hasji [pronounced "HA" breathe out - "SHEE” continue breathing out] is a gorge bootist based in Central, Tāmaki Makaurau, in Aotearoa. They come from Te Arawa, thru the hapū of Ngāti Whakaue and Ngāti Rangiwewehi, as well as the Shoebridge whānau of Devon and Sharp whānau of Shropshire in England. Their oro is a reflection of their attempts to speak to the base rhythms that are tucked away in the overstimulated structures of city lifestyles and the framework of te taiao - climbing from grounded dubs to high altitude jittas.
Gorge is a style of music with roots in Nepal, India and Japan, that follows three rules:
1. Use toms
2. Call it Gorge
3. Don't call it art
